Atheist Census - Be counted!

I haven't posted in a while because of personal reasons and lack of time but I wanted to share this:

Since for me the biggest stupidity is to believe in something you can't prove and then believing that it cares for you I want everyone that is an atheist to be counted. Religion is in its final days for the best of humanity. I will post more later about it.

Be smart,
Be counted,
Be the best you can be.

Ad placement fail

Have you ever thought of synergy? I mean you can take 2 totally different elements and combine them and the result will be greater than the sum of those. Something like 1+1=3. Take the following ads for example. By themselves alone they are just some boring ads hardly worth looking at (sorry advertisers... I love you... I really do!). But put them together or in the right article... and you get this:

 Take the following example:

I bet the girl that took the photo for the ad didn't sign up for this! Carrot does look like an aphrodisiac now huh? OK, stay away from the carrots till the post is over and then do whatever you want! Come back here!!!

I do like his music but still this is hilarious...

"Do it yourself, smoke and become an ad above a cigar ad!"

Two things here... How can you take obesity lightly? Pun intended... and how come on all the junk food ads you see the person in it being slimmer than everyone you have ever seen?

I will take the kitteh church any day over any other church... "The kitteh will save you!"

Black humor but I thought it was appropriate after the church joke... In case you still didn't get it. "One toddler dead, another critical after house fire" reads the title and the ad above says: "burn baby burn..." Black humor but still!

I will give you a hint: Coffee is the word you are looking for here! "Coffee might trigger first heart attack in some... here enjoy a second cup". That's something Hugh Heffner might be listening to from his bunnies haha!

No comments here... Just to avoid censorship...

Well at least in the street you see ads that are relevant with the product... In TV if you lose the punch line of the ad you don't even know what the hell they are advertising... Soon I will get a good selection of those too!

LiveScience: Incompetent people too ignorant to know it

This is a study I found on the LiveScience website and it's really interesting. I will copy paste the content here but I think you should also visit their webpage.

"A growing body of psychology research shows that incompetence deprives people of the ability to recognize their own incompetence. To put it bluntly, dumb people are too dumb to know it. Similarly, unfunny people don't have a good enough sense of humor to tell.
This disconnect may be responsible for many of society's problems.

With more than a decade's worth of research, David Dunning, a psychologist at Cornell University, has demonstrated that humans find it "intrinsically difficult to get a sense of what we don't know." Whether an individual lacks competence in logical reasoning, emotional intelligence, humor or even chess abilities, the person still tends to rate his or her skills in that area as being above average.

Dunning and his colleague, Justin Kruger, formerly of Cornell and now at New York University, "have done a number of studies where we will give people a test of some area of knowledge like logical reasoning, knowledge about STDs and how to avoid them, emotional intelligence, etc. Then we determine their scores, and basically just ask them how well they think they've done," Dunning said. "We ask, 'what percentile will your performance fall in?'"

The results are uniform across all the knowledge domains: People who actually did well on the test tend to feel more confident about their performance than people who didn't do well, but only slightly. Almost everyone thinks they did better than average. "For people at the bottom who are really doing badly — those in the bottom 10th or 15th percentile — they think their work falls in the 60th or 55th percentile, so, above average," Dunning told Life's Little Mysteries. The same pattern emerges in tests of people's ability to rate the funniness of jokes, the correctness of grammar, or even their own performance in a game of chess. "People at the bottom still think they're outperforming other people.

It's not merely optimism, but rather that their total lack of expertise renders them unable to recognize their deficiency. Even when Dunning and his colleagues offer study participants a $100 reward if they can rate themselves accurately, they cannot. "They're really trying to be honest and impartial," he said.

If only we knew ourselves better. Dunning believes people's inability to assess their own knowledge is the cause of many of society's ills, including climate change denialism. "Many people don't have training in science, and so they may very well misunderstand the science. But because they don't have the knowledge to evaluate it, they don't realize how off their evaluations might be," he said.

Moreover, even if a person has come to a very logical conclusion about whether climate change is real or not based on their evaluation of the science, "they're really not in a position to evaluate the science."

Along the same lines, people who aren't talented in a given area tend not to be able to recognize the talents or good ideas of others, from co-workers to politicians. This may impede the democratic process, which relies on citizens having the capacity to identify and support the best candidate or policy.
The ultimate takeaway of the research is the reminder that you really may not be as great as you think you are. And you might not be right about the things you believe you're right about. And if you try to joke about all this, you might not come off as funny as you think."

I think it kinda states the obvious but still LiveScience is one of the great websites you should visit.

Birth Control and politics

I try so hard not to mock religion and politicians basically because they do a great job doing this to themselves but this video enraged me:

The Six Dumbest Things GOP Politicians Have Said About Birth Control Recently:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=DrO1cC1FgLg

Sadly since I can't search it on blogger (whoever code it, you are genius...) to embed it, because you need the link, you have to click on it. I don't know if it's ignorance, religious dogma or stupidity but these people are scaring me. And what scares me more is that they might one day be the Government.

Due to the nature of the post I don't want to enter into a debate and have to explain the obvious, watch the video and laugh... or cry.

And since I want you to be happy these will make you smile:

Finally all the people that advocate that birth control is wrong it kinda makes sense. If you know you wouldn't be alive if your parents knew they'd make a stupid son or daughter but they had you anyway then of course you want other dumb people to have 100 stupid kids.

Stupidity encouraged...

Kinda makes sense in a world where stupidity is all around us, that stupid is the new smart. So now companies (and I say now very loosely since I don't know when this happened) encourage people to be stupid and they even make this an ad campaign. Take Diesel for example:
And this is called natural selection... Stupid falls off a cliff smart stays up and laughs his ass off...
I can't deny the fact that when a simple minded person sees an ad and a colorful picture with huge letters they take what it's being said as truth (which reminds me of another book that is being taken seriously for its flashy interior but anyway). Yet I think it's kinda misleading to say the least. And if I judge from how many dumb people are all over the place, they will start taking pride from it. Not to mention the kids that see this.

I am really tired of being politically correct when I talk to and about stupid people. Why should I be? I mean OK I can use sarcasm to tell someone he is an idiot without him even realizing it (True Story) but still if I call someone an idiot everyone around him will act like they are more insulted than him. I mean come on, am I the first one that calls him that?
Smart critiques, artist/creative creates... not stupid
Being politically correct to someone that is slow, because he was born this way, or to someone with Down syndrome, I do it because I want to and it's the right thing to do because he didn't have a choice. But when I hear people saying "well my kid isn't good with school, he is good with his hands" I wanna slap them around. Einstein was considered stupid in high school yet he proved to be a genius. Have you tried some rough love on your supposedly slow kid?

Being stupid is just an excuse for being lazy and with no motivation. Leave someone starving and tell him the only way he can survive is by studying and you will see how he will become smart overnight. His flee or flight response will go crazy. "I need to read bro or they will kick my ass!"
Next picture a truck passes in between these cars...
Of course it kinda makes sense why everyone encourages being stupid. As they say ignorance is a bliss. And I agree but up to a point. When someone tells me that from LA to NY it's as far as it's from Athens to Rome I can call them stupid with no regrets. And of course while I complain I find it comforting that there are so many stupid people. This is how economy works and how money are gathering upwards to the rich.

For example when you buy a smartphone just because it is "in" and costs 600 euros and then the next one comes in the market with no significant changes and you buy it again, how am I supposed to describe you? Genius? Or when you buy a pink Lamborghini? Or a lion for your personal collection? I can think of many examples don't test me...
like: "Are these mushrooms poisonous?"
"Stupid has the boobs" Who said I don't enjoy stupid people?
Most of the times on the news too!
Do I even have to comment on that? (Smart will say no, stupid will say yes...)
As for the pictures I wanted to analyze their messages but I think to someone smart they can see through their flawed logic. Which is close to the speeches many politicians make actually and since I work in the Public Relations industry I should know better... To help you a bit replace some words and search for the deeper meaning and you are there. I can't believe someone that reads my blog is not capable of that!

Angelina's right leg...

Speaking of twitter in my last post someone mentioned the huge publicity that Angelina Jolie got when she wore that dress with her leg out in the 2012 Oscar nominations... They even made a twitter account named after it and it got millions of followers... Now what a right leg has to tweet, is beyond me and even beyond me is why people follow it? Maybe it's because it's so close to her vagina I 'd assume, but since yesterday (I think) she got engaged, this is a good opportunity to see some of the thousand memes that were created by it. (and mock the people for giving it more than just a look). So here is the original:

She can probably use her leg instead of an I.D. if needed... Which would prove interesting in case a policeman stops her in the middle of the street. Also looking at her pic kinda makes you stop wondering why all the women in facebook upload more pictures of themselves with almost nothing... "I will create a meme of my right under-boob! you will see!"... Aaah that's how dreams are born... Thank you Angelina for making girl's realize their purpose in life!

Also next time you go to a foreign country... try bringing a T-Shirt back... I mean come on... bringing kids in every of your trips? If you end up with 100 kids it's like they are in a foster home. Imagine 2 kids living under the same roof and it's hell for them... Let alone when they have 100 sibling... What are you trying to do repopulate Hollywood with diversity? Racism is long gone over there. We have a black (and skillful if I may add) President now! Remember how everyone said before him if we are ready for a black President? Hell we already had a dumb one. Obama was an upgrade even for the smart presidents.

Anyway as usual I tread away from subject. Here are the pictures featuring Angelina's leg. No animals, kids, humans, aliens etc were hurt in the making of these pictures... (for you sensitive ones...).

The force is strong with this leg...
Looking out of the window would be either too freaky or too funny...
She kinda needed a renovation... I mean as seriously as we take freedom these days...
I bet Da Vinci would be very proud...
A small step for Angelina, a big leap... wait what?
Brilliant...
The dark side has many legs...
Well deserved if you ask me..
This is more sexy than Angelina...
So you think you know who Darth Vader is...?

As a final note imagine how mainstream and boring the Oscars have become, along with the same celebrities every year that the people find more interesting a part of them which is in this case a leg than the whole show. If you ask who won the Oskars in 2012 thy will probably only remember this leg meme. Good job Hollywood.
